Latest information on COVID-19

bathroom & toilet facilities

When toilets and bathrooms are used at companies, hygiene is the top priority – which is also true even without the heightened risk due to coronavirus. An increase in people’s awareness of hygiene makes it even more important to ensure the highest standards of hygiene in sanitary facilities at the moment.

To ensure your employees feel at ease and safe from infection, we have summed up the measures necessary to implement in the sanitary facilities at your company.

What hygiene guidance applies to bathrooms & toilets?

A company standard describing the additional measures necessary to protect employees from the coronavirus should give employees and customers the reassurance necessary to resume work; this includes additional hygiene measures and increased caution in relation to pathogens in company toilets and bathrooms:

Enable perfect hygiene

Guidance on correct hand washing procedure

  • Hands must be washed regularly and for long enough (at least 20 seconds) with soap and water
  • Inform your employees about the correct procedure in a separate briefing
  • An information board describing the correct way to wash your hands should be posted in every bathroom

Reduce touching with hands

  • Soap dispensers, taps, and paper towel dispensers that are automatically activated are extremely useful
  • Also, advise your employees to open doors or turn on taps with their elbows if possible.

Clean sanitary facilities regularly

  • All toilets and bathrooms should now be cleaned more often than usually the case.
  • However, it is not necessary to use larger amounts of cleaning agents
  • Always keep in mind: Wipe rather than spray! This prevents droplets being inhaled and attacking the respiratory tract

3 Tips for implementing the latest hygiene standards in bathrooms & toilets

Toilet seat being cleaned with yellow rubber gloves

Infection prevention: Everyone needs to pitch in

Install disinfectant dispensers and ask staff members to disinfect all points of contact (e.g. toilet seat) themselves before and after using the toilet. This makes things twice as safe and hygienic.

Reassurance from cleaning rotas

Increase the use of cleaning rotas to record how often the toilets have been cleaned professionally. This ensures better monitoring of regular cleaning and more reassurance among employees.

Cracked or dry skin from disinfectants?

Frequent disinfection and hand washing can dry out the skin. Provide unscented hand care lotion! This prevents skin irritation and helps protect the skin of your employees and customers.
