Professional ear and hearing protection: providing safety from loud noises

Many working environments, particularly industrial environments, can be exceptionally noisy. Failure to provide your workers with appropriate ear protection is important to prevent temporary or permanent hearing loss and other problematic ear-related conditions.

Why is ear protection so important?

The ears are very sensitive, which often go undetected until ringing or roaring starts to happen. By then, it may be too long. Prolonged exposure to high, or even low, levels of noise can cause irreparable damage to hearing. These types of noises are common in production halls, on building sites, and during assembly.

Fortunately, it’s not hard to protect your employees’ ears. All you need is the right hearing protection equipment. Within our range, we have a range of different options available, including:

Ear plugs

Earmuffs

Clamp ear protectors

What all these types of hearing protection have in common is that they reduce noise level. The SNR value tells you how much attenuation they provide.

Important note: ear protection at the workplace is not up for negotiation. Employers must provide hearing protection when employees are exposed to noise levels of 80 decibels or more and employees must use it when exposed to noise levels of 85 decibels or more.

Ear plugs or muffs: the differences between types of hearing protection

Ear plugs made of polyurethane are small, comfortable to wear, and can be easily combined with other PPE (personal protective equipment), such as safety goggles. An ear plug station gives your employees a way to obtain hearing protection devices at any time and at short notice.

Earmuffs are ideal if the noise at the workplace is not continuous, but becomes loud for short periods of time. Put them on and take them off again as opposed to putting ear plugs into your ear canal. The same applies to ear defenders.
