Locks and keys: Rest with a sense of security!

Are you wondering whether sensitive areas at the company are adequately protected from unauthorised access, or whether important assets are securely stored? Then it's time to check whether your locks and keys are appropriate for your security requirements. All you need to do is update a few items, and you’ll have a state of the art security concept with no effort at all.

Which locks are suitable for which areas of use?

The security levels that locks and keys need to provide do, of course, increase with the value of, or potential danger presented by, the contents of clothes lockers, cupboards and rooms.

The classic cylinder lock with an assigned set of keys is one of the most versatile products, and is popular for staff clothes lockers and for office cupboards and universal cupboards.

Combination locks are particularly good for securing sensitive areas of the company, or for locking safes. The key feature in this case is that no keys are required, and the numerical code can be used by several people. In addition, it can be changed if security has been breached.

Along with these options, you can obtain locking systems for gates and access barriers, and order more complicated locking systems from us for a range of different uses.

Which locks and keys are ideal for schools or other public facilities?

Many facilities are frequented by many different people on a daily basis. The lock system should therefore cater to the public that is using the particular facility – for example in the changing area of a swimming pool, or in the foyer of a library.

Deposit locks are the best solution because no keys can go missing, they can’t be locked inside by mistake, and misuse is impossible. This saves you a lot of administrative work.

If this system isn't a practical one for you, make sure to number each locker and to write the number on each key. You will find accessories suitable for labelling in our shop.

Which security guidelines do employers have to remember for locks and keys?

Every lock that is used to secure a dangerous or valuable item is subject to certain regulations. Access barrier locks, for example, must comply with DIN standard 3222/3223, and be able to be opened by the fire brigade in an emergency using a universal triangular utility key.

The requirements for storing important documents in special steel cupboards or substances in hazardous good storage cupboards are very precisely formulated. The respective information is provided in the relevant regulations and standards with which these types of cupboards (are expected to) comply.

However, the general rule for locks and keys is: always make sure that any keys stored in a central place within the company are equally well secured as the goods you keep behind lock and key.

Document all keys or codes that are handed out and returned in entirety. Even if the key only opens the drawer of a workbench or a similar item of furniture.

Experts also advise disposing of keys or locks that are no longer needed in a way that ensures they cannot be traced back to their previous use. Clever thieves also use knowledge like this for their nefarious activities! And if you need advice, simply contact us!
