Latest information on COVID-19:

Warehouses & logistics

Whether the first wave of the coronavirus is already behind us, and how many more will come, remains unclear at the moment. One thing is certain, however: warehouses and logistics must continue to function without disruption. You and your employees are celebrated as “essential” and as “everyday heroes” because without them a stable supply of basic essentials won’t be possible.

However, the fact is that due to COVID-19 and the fraught order situation, reliable and fast transport of orders is not always straightforward. Hygienic, efficient work in the warehouse can also quickly become a challenge. Learn how to support and protect your employees, banish any uncertainties and satisfy legal requirements.

Which guidelines apply to warehousing & logistics?

As a rule, employers are obliged to take measures to protect employees. They should therefore introduce specific precautions to ensure that measures are implemented correctly. They are also responsible for monitoring the effectiveness of the measures. We would like to make the following recommendations:

Inform employees

  • Inform employees about the risk of infection and the correct way to ensure hygiene (e.g. washing hands regularly and sneezing away from others and into the crook of your arm)
  • Distance must be maintained, even during breaks and conversations
  • Do not eat meals in a group, but rather alone
  • If an employee exhibits symptoms: Send them home immediately

Prepare the workspace

  • Thorough, regular cleaning and disinfection of the work area, especially handles and steering wheels on machines and vehicles
  • Hygiene products in the sanitary facilities, especially disinfectants, liquid soap and towel dispensers.
  • Additional equipment for hand hygiene and disinfection right in the warehouse and directly at machines, with paper towels and waste sacks
  • Guarantee that workplaces are divided up by means of bollards, hygienic partition walls or barrier tapes.
  • The distances to be maintained throughout the storage area must be marked, for example with adhesive tape or chain stands

Follow guidelines on protection

  • You, and your employees, should wear mouth and nose masks, which you, as an employer, should provide if the minimum distances cannot be reliably observed
  • Do not share tools and work equipment. When this is not possible, regular, thorough cleaning is essential!
  • Do not share work clothing, and wash them regularly
  • Use professional protective gloves
  • Optimise working hours and route planning so that breaks are staggered and small, fixed teams are formed that work on the same shifts, machines or vehicles
